                        EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED

Congregation Brothers of Israel

Dear Friends,
This past Monday, there was a deluge of rain in Bucks county.  For most of us, it meant our gardens received a soaking but for more than 400 homes in Lower Bucks, it meant severe flooding in their homes and many of the homes are unlivable and people are now in shelters.

During Hurricane Sandy, we lived in Margate and experienced flooding ourselves, I remember that moment looking at our flooded family room and not knowing what to do first because it was overwhelming.  Over the years, I have volunteered in various places following natural disasters and people are grateful for an extra hand.  I would like to organize volunteers to help our neighbors in Lower Bucks begin their process of cleaning up and rebuilding.

The Volunteer Organizations are getting organized with PA FEMA and there will be many ways to get involved for many people.
The first opportunity is this coming Tuesday.  They need 1-3 volunteers to pick up 45 clean up kits in Perkasie and Souderton and transport them to the MARC (Multi AGency Relief Center).  If you are interested in helping, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the coordinator.  This would be an easy project for families with younger children.  It is loading up an SUV/Van and transporting the kits

If you are interested in helping to muck out houses, then reserve
Sunday, July 25th as a possible date to volunteer.  Please fill out this form:

I will find out the minimum age to volunteer, many agencies will not allow young children to volunteer for safety concerns.

For mucking out a flooded house, you will need at least the following:
1. Old Clothing that can be discarded after the day.  The first assumption is that flood waters may be contaminated.
2. Closed toed shoes, preferably work boots.
3. N95 masks
4. Rubber gloves/work gloves to protect your hands.
Any additional PPE or work requirements, we will send out before volunteering.

Thank you for your help.
