A MODERN CONSERVATIVE SYNAGOGUE SERVING BUCKS AND MERCER COUNTies INCLUDING
NEWTOWN, YARDLEY, LOWER MAKEFIELD, LANGHORNE AND RICHBORO

ALL ARE WELCOME

CBOI is a growing and inclusive congregation, enriching and enjoying Jewish life together through Services, Minyan, Men's Club, Sisterhood, Committees, Talmud Class, Online Learning, Tot and Youth programs. Come explore the CBOI Community Organic Garden and Gan Mayim—our very own living waters, unique to  CBOI.

As a modern conservative synagogue, CBOI is proud to continue our tradition of outstanding and affordable Jewish education. Annual Hebrew School Tuition is only $360.00 per student. Students benefit from weekly classes and one-on-one tutoring which enables them to participate avidly in services. Bar/Bat Mitzvah students read with pride directly from our Torah and Haftorah scrolls.

All are welcome to join our egalitarian family.

At this time, out of consideration to our membership, our synagogue life is continuing by putting our events, school, and services on zoom.

ISRAEL BONDS

  • Israel Bond purchases by  congregants can benefit our synagogue as well as Israel. Congregants can purchase Israel bonds and donate the bond to the synagogue, thereby fulfilling their charitable contribution to the synagogue. The bond purchase, which may be a charitable contribution (investors must speak to a tax advisor), also is a double mitzvah.
  • Instead of checks and gift cards for gifts - the eMitzvah bond (minimum investment is $36 which can only be purchased online) and the Mazel Tov bond (minimum investment is $100), have the benefit and potential to transform a gift into a mitzvah as well as a learning experience. We can provide printed or electronic information.

·         A collaborative project is taking place with American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA) & Israel Bonds. Our Region has a goal of purchasing at least one Ambulance. The cost of an Ambulance is a $100,000. Individuals can participate by purchasing a minimum $1,000 – 3 year Sabra bond. The bond is registered to AFMDA and when it matures, the proceeds from all bonds that are part of this program equal to $100,000 will purchase an ambulance for Israel. This is another great way to support Israel by doing a double mitzvah. Some synagogues are making it possible for individuals to participate at a smaller amount. Individuals write a check to the synagogue which pools the funds. When the synagogue has received a minimum of $1,000, the synagogue purchases the bond and registers it to AFMDA. Contributions may be tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. A tax advisor should be consulted for details. Information is attached about this program.

Re-Opening For Services

Dear Congregant:

With the recommendation from both the CBOI Ritual Committee and Board of Trustees, we are excited to invite you to attend Shabbat services in-person beginning Friday, June 25th and Saturday, June 26th . We will continue to use Zoom for all Shabbat services as well.

The Ritual Committee reviewed the survey which was sent to the Congregation in May, as well as the latest CDC Guidelines and Pennsylvania Department of Health Guidelines. There is a significant reduction in COVID-19 infections, fewer deaths, and increased vaccinations on both the national and local scale. As of the beginning of June, almost all limitations have been lifted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Governor’s office.

The congregational survey was sent to 201 email addresses and we received 103 responses:
          • 98.2% of respondents were or will be vaccinated within the next 60 days.
          • 68% would feel comfortable returning to in-person services with a capacity of 60 people when the HVAC updates are complete.

The Board of Trustees approved a set of initial guidelines to create a safe and healthy environment for everyone gathering at CBOI. The guidelines include wearing masks, continued physical distancing, and encouraging people to get vaccinated. See the attached set of guidelines for complete information.

In addition, the Board of Trustees approved an upgrade to our HVAC systems that will be completed as soon as possible, and most definitely in time for the High Holidays. While all of the upgrades may not be completed by June 25th, we do not expect more than 25 people to regularly attend Shabbat services, giving us ample ability to ensure safety and health.

The Ritual Committee and Rabbi Gaber expect that we will continue to modify the guidelines for inperson services based upon guidance from the CDC and the PA Dept. of Health. Some modifications may include relaxing the masking mandate, increasing capacity, and making food available for Oneg Shabbat and Kiddush. We will continue to update the Board of Trustees and the congregation as we continue through the summer.

We are grateful to the many volunteers who have invested time and energy to ensure that during the last 18 months and going forward, CBOI will be a safe and healthy community. We thank Rabbi Gaber, Joan Hersch, Cantor Barnett and our synagogue staff for ensuring that we were meeting the needs of our community throughout the pandemic. We look forward to continuing to grow and seeing you inperson in the weeks and months to come.

Sincerely,

     Donna Nowicki                                                 James Wartenberg
