Congregation Brothers of Israel

L'dor Vador - From Generation to Generation since 1883 לדור ודור

Our Hebrew School program is for students in the fourth grade through seventh grade.  Students attend class 2 times a week. Classes meet Wednesday from 5pm until 6:30 PM and Sunday from 9:15 AM until 12:30 PM.

Our School emphasizes equally the study of Siddur Hebrew, Prayer and Liturgy, as well as Jewish ethics, history, Bible and Jewish customs and ceremonies.  Jewish identity is stressed. The children study the “how and why” of our holidays and celebrate Jewish life cycle experiences. The newest and most up-to-date materials are used.  A multi-media approach is offered to add to our students’ excitement of learning about being Jewish. We teach each child according to their own individual needs.

Formal Hebrew instruction begins in third grade with heavy emphasis on developing fluency in Hebrew decoding skills.  From there, the student is guided in reinforcing and building their Hebrew skills with a Siddur Hebrew approach. A progressive vocabulary expands from lesson to lesson.

Our hard-earned reputation for excellence is maintained in our Prayer Program.  Students master competency in the Prayer Book and Passover Hagaddah so that they can feel at home in any synagogue.

Emphasis has been placed on involving the family and home in our children’s progress and programs.

The complete curriculum is available in print, upon request.
